Fashion: The cons & pros

The fashion industry is a mystery to many who haven't been at a runway or researched more in depth about what occurs behind the scenes. At my school we had this capstone project which the seniors had to teach about any subject they chose. I was asked to participate in a mini runway show which I did, but also saw the presentations. It was a marvelous job done ! And well, I was very nervous that what i chose was not fashion ready. Either way, these two seniors spoke about fashion and what is going on behind-the-scenes. So I also began to research what was really going behind the Fashion industry. Of course, many will think, what is wrong with models running with clothes a designer made? Isn't it about the show and that's it?

To begin with, this is wrong. The designers put forth their work to show potential buyers for their stores or for themselves. It's also a way of expressing who or what they feel as themselves. A close friend of mine states at her previous runway show the designer stated," he show is not of you or how you look, it is using clothes to express how you are suppose to feel." And I felt this is a concept one always forgets. These designers put forth there passion to show the world.

First Con:

Although many designers have began to move their factories closer to home, there are still many that try to find an easy way out of paying employees and/or paying for factory expenses. Therefore, they pay low income country factories to manufacture their products. This leads to unsafe factories which have no fire protocol or in any situation. For example, 2012, a factory manufacturing clothes caught fire. Many people passed away causing many to be devastated.

2nd Con :

Fashion has begun to evolve into a better industry, however animals have been affected also. It was a trend in the 1950s , this was fur. They would kill animals simply to obtain there fur coat, from foxes to bear to etc! At the time it seemed ok, however now in the 21h century many collection are anti-fur coats. Of course there are those who have no care and do not think twice who still enjoys real fur, but many collections have changed to having fake fur rather than real fur.

Overall, the industry has had it's downs, but at the end it is only getting better.
